Residential Renovation | Russell, Kentucky
Featured on Season 7, Episode 2 of In With the Old on Max and Discovery+, this project tells the story of transforming a grand, circa 1888 Victorian mansion into a vibrant, livable space that honors its rich past while embracing the needs of modern living.
For this mansion, every corner told a story. Original woodwork was lovingly restored, from the carved banisters to the intricate crown moldings that had withstood the test of time. The stained-glass windows, once clouded and fragile, were revived to let in streams of colorful light, casting a glow that danced across the newly refinished floors.
But the renovation wasn’t just about looking back—it was about moving forward. Modern updates were seamlessly integrated, from a state-of-the-art kitchen that now serves as the heart of the home to thoughtfully redesigned bathrooms, now featuring Parisian wallpaper and modern finishes. Each space was curated to respect the mansion’s original grandeur while making it a functional, welcoming home.
Special mention to Kaila and Gabe, whose vision and dedication guided the four-year renovation. Their love for the home and community turned this project into more than just a remodel—it became a symbol of revitalization for Russell. Artwork provided by the homeowners blended beautifully with pieces from local artists, completing a home that remains as personal as it is historic.
